Don't own one own a bambi but vans are very similar unfortunately and with much debate and argument the Nipper is not accepted as eligible to join the Bambi owners club this is wrong i feel as the base vehicles are the same. It would appear that the Bambi club maybe should be renamed the Autohomes club as the loyalty appears to be to the company rather than the vehicle. I understand when Autohomes went under elddis bought them out and wanted to continue Bambi operation but this never happened and they made their own camper the Nipper. It would be nice if there was a club that accepted both vans i think.

Yeah , the bambi and nipper are very close with the coachbuilt too (same setup). I prefer the Bambi side windows though.

I got no idea how many nippers were built though Sad

I have been reading the Bambi forums and noticed there's some tension there!

I have never gained much info from there anyaway (apart from Mr. Thornbury), it has been perfect on this site - every problem solved quite quickly!

Hi Chop JJ and Marco

Yes i think i am the cause of the tension at present on the Bambi Owners Site. It was my postings suggesting a bit more flexibility (of the road for 11 years and Ouch that was below the belt) that sparked the current problems.
All i was suggesting was that the BOC became more open and perhaps had some sort of affiliation with the Nipper after all it is the same base vehicle. This provoked the wrath of the chairman who ordered my posts to be removed and this sparked off some protest from other members it was initially suggested that the posts be re-instated but this has never happened and i have been told that one or two others have also left the site now. If anyone is interested please read what is left of the postings the really interesting ones have been removed and put on a private forum which i can't access so i don't know how they ended but i do know a number of members were not happy.

I love these vans and my only interest was in their preservation however in one of the quotes from a boc member he says that he feels the van and the club should be allowed to die a natural death. I strongly disagree i want my Bambi to be running when my little boy (5) is driving and i think the interests of the vehicle are better served on this forum, certainly people here are more open minded and flexible than the rigid and unmovable many on the Boc forum.

As far as the Nipper goes i think it was only in production for a couple of years so i doubt that there are that many around now i have heard that elddis wanted to carry on production of the Bambi but couldn't get permission to use the name but how true this is i don't know.

I rescued my own bambi after it had been off the road for 11 years it needed surprisingly little work to get it running and through its mot but it was a struggle to find parts even the tyres were difficult to get (one of the reasons for my wanting the Nipper in the boc was that the increase in knowledge and demand for parts may prompt some action from pattern part makers)

I am not a member of the Boc never have been and never will be unless they change there rigid purist outlook and welcome other people into the club. However with feeling running as they are i doubt they would ever accept me anyway.

Hope to be a regular poster here

Hi Mark.
I've just bought one off fleabay from a guy in Luton(I live in Doncaster) its been messed about with but I'm up to the task of setting it straight again,I've already bought four new tyres for it (it had been fitted with normal car tyres which lead to
the  sidewalls cracking due to the weight on them, its got eight ply commercial tyres on now.)changed the oil and filter and
had the intermediate exhaust pipe  changed.
So I'm a bit skint now and theres still loads to do I don't know how people can drive vehicles round in such bad condition
it would drive me mad.

Hi Chris

It is good to speak with you again hope all is well with you and yours. How is the Bambi going? How are things settling down on the BOC site without my input. I dare say peace and harmony has been restored instantaneously Wink

Hope to hear from you soon

Hi JJ

Yes i think you are right, that is what owners clubs are or at least should be about. The Bambi club as far as i can see is mainly staffed by those who still remember rationing, they seem to treat it as more of an exclusive social club than having an interest in the prolonging of the vehicle in fact their loyalty appears to be to the now out of business Autohomes company (who made the Bambi) They say that only owners of genuine Autohome made bambi's may be in the club. No offence is meant to the club or any member of it here but if they are genuine rascal enthusiasts, which they really should be as it is the base of their vehicle they would be more welcoming to others Ie Nipper romahome and even Honda Acty type campers this open attitude would be in their own best interests and i also know that this is what a number of them would like to do. It's just a matter of someone with the necessary strength of character to stick their head up out of the  trenches and make a statement. I fear this may not happen though

I guess although there is an unspoken undercurrent of sorts, that the status quo remains the same. The Bambi is going great now - just the roof vent to do, and the spring mount rebuild, and then, we have an immaculate example, mechanically and bodywise.
