Hi all

I'm Leon, from South Wales, and on the look out for a Rascal/Super Carry. I've always fancied one, and the time has come to take the plunge!

I've got my eye on a couple on eBay that seem to be in pretty good nick, but I'd be open to offers. Willing to pay up to about £1000 for a nice one.

I'm sure I'll be on asking lots of newb questions, so be patient!

Hi Leon,
welcome to all us lot!
For up to 1K you should get a nice one indeed, but if you're handy enough, don't spend that sort of money unless it's a later Suzuki bonneted type.

Don't rush in & fall for the first one, there's very often quite a few about. I would suggest the 'K' reg. era, they tend to have better steel in 'em!

Thanks Titch

It's definitely the classic shape I'm after, not the newer, bonneted type, so I'm hoping my money will go pretty far.

I was thinking of going for the newest I could get, but do you think a slightly older, nice clean van would be better? How's about something on an 'M' plate? There's a couple going on eBay around that age within my price range.

Unless of course I could get a DellBoy original!  Grin

Cheers

Leon

PS Sorry for all the questions!

Hello Leon & welcome to the site. Avoid post 1994. They have all the emissions gizmos & were built in Japan out of Bacofoil. 1992 to 1994 are not bad but sometimes difficult to get through M.o.T.`s due to not having a cat fitted or a Lamda sensor despite all British registered vehicles being required to have them from 1992. 1990 to 1992 is possibly best due to having electronic ignition.. My personal favourites are 1986 to 1988 owned by a florist & garaged. The worst are builders/gardeners/farmers who leave them parked in long wet grass. Also mobile mechanics, they drive them into the ground. I am just finishing a `g` plate with bull bar & proper rascal fold up rear set which is quickly removable. £1,400.00 with seat & bullbar or £1,300.00 without. Happy hunting, Derek.

What colour/style is the G reg? Is it standard panel? Or does it have any side-windows etc? If you've got any pics I'll give you my email address. I could be interested Shocked)

i would not worry to much about the later one,s never had a problem with emissions on mine or my mates, but they do rust more than the older ones, the trick is to get straight on to any rust that start to show same for the older one,s,as for prices they are going silly i paid £390 for my p reg,and i would not worry to much about ex gardener vans either i have one seemed he only ever parked outside of houses as apposed to on the lawn lol

Thanks Mike. I think I agree with you there. I haven't even got my first van yet, and I'm thinking of picking up a rusty old 'project'...

There's a saying, and song..
Many Rivers To Cross!

Best looking at one without the bodged cosmetics, from then on what you do to it yourself, you know what's been done! If it's very old but looks exceptional, treat it with suspicion unless you can verify the condition.
Go for it, just get one!
