HI
« on: April 22, 2010, 08:00:14 PM »

Great forum! Just got myself a 1992 rascal yesterday.  Runs OK apart from a shudder at around 60mph that goes away around 75  Grin   Also found out today that the brake lights don't work so in an effort to trace the fault I ended up ripping out the entire dash!  Got a fun weekend ahead for sure.

Welcome to the site. I think you are starting from the wrong end to find your brake light problem. It`s always best to start at the defective item & work backwards up the line till you reach the fault. Derek.

just don't go messing with the main switch on the steering column... I had brake lights and not much else lol, hopefully the part on its way will let me diagnose the original problem... or even fix it... unfortunuately unpronounceable volcano is holding up the mail Sad

Thanks for the replies.  I decided to have a loom clean-up anyway as the amount of wiring for the radio piggy backing off other wiring was immense and the brake fuse was blowing which was due to melted wiring as some muppet had wired the radio straight into the brake light wiring.

I was a trainee mechanic in my younger years and have kept the skills up so it's not a daunting job.

I got it from Liverpool.. the bloke that sold it to me topped up the levels and sprayed black paint over the rust just before I turned up and openly told me he had.. not sure if he thought that was standard practice for rust or not  Grin

Has anyone got a choke cable for sale by any chance?  I guess I could always use bike brake cable instead.

cheers Titch, good idea.  Also done a quick search on ebay and found these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Choke-cable-Universal-locking_W0QQitemZ140399387999QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item20b074a55f#ht_500wt_958

Looks like it will do the job.. will update later today when I get a chance to measure the old one.

You need one about 8ft. long & I haven`t been able to find anyone making them that long. Derek.

I might just drill a hole near the gear stick and stick it there instead..

The electrical fault is fixed but as I was putting her back together I managed to turn the headlights on full beam which killed the battery.. which was when I found out where the battery was.. under half a ton of wood I'd already loaded in the van Roll Eyes

Thats where I fit them if I have to but it is surprisingly awkward to fiddle with reaching down between your legs [don`t say a word Chop] whilst driving along. Derek.
