To bleed air out of the fuel line/pump/filter pull off the bottom feed hose to the carb. Put the open hose end into a clean, empty container & turn the ignition on so pump runs. Watch the petrol going into the container until there are no bubbles or spurts. Put your finger over the open hose as you switch off the pump. Push the pipe back on the carb union trying not to allow any air back in. Run the pump again until it slows down to a regular tick. Turn off the pump. Pull off the top [return] fuel pipe keeping your head away because a thin jet of fuel will spurt out into your eyes. Quickly put the pipe back on. Hopefully all air will be out of the system now. Derek.

The story continues...
Took the van for the run down to Dorset. It was all going very well until it started every now and then to dip in power - maybe every 30mins or so. Thought maybe a blocked carb.
But on the way back today it was completely dying on me. Kept having to pull over and restart. Everytime I turned the key the fuel pump either didn't do anything or went like the clappers.
I've limped home and have taken the fuel pump off. Looks incredibly rusty - had to take screws out with mole grips as there was no cross thread. Contacts don't look in great shape - but am thinking I should just get a new fuel pump with it being in a state. And if that doesn't fix the problem I'll attempt the full carb clean. When its running it is running very well - just suddenly dies.
Rung around for parts and have been quoted around the £90 mark. Thinking the Facet solid state from demon Tweaks might be a good option. Just wanted to check what people thought of the specs - the "Road" one is:
A 12 volt negative earth pump with a flow rate of 12 gallons per hour and a delivery pressure of 2.5-3 Psi. Ideal for road cars with engines sizes up to 1600cc.
Is this the one that people have put on their Rascals?
I don't want to get something that is to powerful and floods the engine - does the fuel system on the Rascal have a pressure regulator? I'm not sure it does. Any feedback from the people that have mentioned using the Facet pump would be much appreciated.

JJ's right, the £60.00 mark should be tops really.
I've seen some somewhere a few years ago, I had one on a Range Rover with a straight six Nissan diesel in it and the pump coped with that. It's now on my Rascal and fine too, I must find out where I got it, I will! It was £40.00ish if I remember.....
